See the note you're holding
Turn on Hum, the round gold microphone button at the right of the bottom toolbar, and chant or hum one steady note. Imajourn hears its pitch and drives the water at that note. As you hold it, the hum ring shows the note and then Locked, and the water settles into that note's figure.
Change the note and the figure changes. Higher notes draw finer patterns and lower notes broader ones: an octave up halves the size of the waves, just as it does for real sound.
Choose the circle in Shape, hum a low, comfortable note and hold it for a few breaths. Then move up a step at a time and watch each new figure form.
What does Om look like?
It depends on the note you chant it on, not on the word. In Imajourn a figure comes from two things: the pitch you hold and the shape of the vessel. An Om on A draws a different figure from an Om on D, and the same note draws one figure in a circle and another in a hexagon.
What stays true is that the same note in the same vessel always draws the same shape. So your Om has a shape of its own, and you can come back to it whenever you like.
You may have seen a picture said to be "the shape of Om". In cymatics a figure always depends on the pitch, the vessel and how it's set ringing, so one word can draw many shapes. That's part of the joy of it: find yours.
A singing bowl, always in tune
Imajourn starts with its Bowl voice, which rings like a singing bowl. Touch the water and each ripple plays a note, low at the bottom of the screen and high at the top. Every note belongs to the scale, so nothing sounds wrong.
The free scales include Dawn, after raga Bhairav, the early-morning raga of Hindustani music, and Dusk, a soft pentatonic for the evening. The first time you open Imajourn, its scale follows the time of day. In Sound you can also open the reverb from Dry to Cathedral.
The Pure and Bowl voices and four scales are free. Imajourn Pro adds the Glass and Choir voices and seven more scales, including Hirajoshi and Dorian.
Drift: let it play you to sleep
Start Drift from the menu and the scene plays itself, slow ripples and soft notes, with nothing to touch. When the timer ends, light and sound fade out together and the screen goes dark. Drift keeps playing with the screen locked.
Drift is free for 15 minutes at a time. With Imajourn Pro you can choose 30 or 60 minutes, or let it play until you stop it.
Softer light for quiet moments
Sensory mode keeps the light gentle, with lower contrast, no bright flashes and calmer palettes. Imajourn also respects Reduce Motion and Reduce Transparency, and on iPhone you can feel the waves under your finger through haptics.
For groups, classes and sound baths
Leading a meditation, a sound bath or a service? Mirror Imajourn to an Apple TV or an AirPlay TV: the water fills the big screen while your iPhone or iPad stays the instrument. Choose Listen in Sound, and the music and claps in the room become drops on the water.
Private, and made for calm
Imajourn listens only while Hum or Listen is on. Sound is analysed on your device to find its pitch and rhythm, and it's never recorded or sent anywhere. There's no account, no ads and no tracking.
A note on sound healing. Imajourn is made for calm, wonder and curiosity. It isn't a medical or therapy app, and it makes no health claims.
Questions
Does Imajourn record my voice?
No. Hum and Listen analyse sound on your device, only while they're on, and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere. Clips record only Imajourn's own sound.
Which note should I chant?
Any note that's comfortable to hold. Lower notes draw broad, calm shapes and higher notes finer ones. Try a few and keep the one you like: the same note always draws the same shape in the same vessel.
Can I use Imajourn with a group?
Yes. Mirror your iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV or AirPlay TV with Screen Mirroring. The TV shows only the water, and your device stays the instrument.
Is it free?
Yes. Hum, Listen, Water and Plate, the Pure and Bowl voices, four scales, Sensory mode and 15-minute Drift are all free. Imajourn Pro is a one-time purchase, never a subscription.
